Project Overview
This project, commissioned for Representative Virginia Foxx’s portrait unveiling in Congress, was designed to honor her journey from humble Appalachian roots to national leadership. The goal was to create a dignified and heartfelt documentary that reflected her character, values, and lifelong dedication to education and service.
Pre-Production
I began by researching Dr. Foxx’s personal history — growing up in Linville Falls, teaching in community colleges, and rising to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives. Working alongside Elizabeth Banks and her team, we shaped a narrative that bridged her early life in the Blue Ridge Mountains with her decades in public service.
Filming
Production took place both in Washington, D.C., and back home in North Carolina. I conducted interviews with colleagues, family members, and long-time friends to highlight the values that define her: perseverance, humility, and purpose. B-roll from the Capitol, the Blue Ridge, and archival photographs were woven together to create visual contrast — from mountain roads to marble halls.
Post-Production
In the edit, I focused on tone and pacing — balancing cinematic storytelling with reverence. Subtle orchestral scoring and clean color grading gave the piece a timeless quality suited for congressional presentation.
Final Product
The 20-minute documentary premiered during the official portrait unveiling in Congress. It was met with heartfelt reactions, praised for its honesty and emotional depth, and now serves as a lasting tribute to Dr. Foxx’s legacy of leadership and service.
